2019 is the year I'm finally escaping the pressure of my own expectations and of others. All of us go through this struggle, and I want to be here for anyone who is also going through it! A lot of it is mental and knowing yourself and listening to yourself and your needs outside of art.
I hope to accomplish more than sketches, but I do want to refine my understanding of anatomy and sharpen my drawing skills. Many great artists say if you know how to draw well everything else follows. You'll have an easier time with color bc you'll still understand lighting and form, for example.
I recall reading Da Vinci strictly pushing his students to learn to draw first before they jumped into something more complicated bc it is a foundation, once mastered, in which everything learned after becomes easier.
There is NO shame in only sketching and drawing if that's what makes you happy. Never pressure or guilt yourself bc that will stop your progress for months and even years. You will push yourself on your own to do different things when you're actually having fun. Having fun leads to curiosity for more, so stay curious and loving what you do Good luck with your artistic endeavors!
